How do the benchmark scores compare?
AMD Ryzen 7 8700G has a PassMark single-core score of 3,922, compared with 3,840 for Intel Core i7-12700. AMD Ryzen 7 8700G has the higher score in this benchmark.
AMD Ryzen 7 8700G has a PassMark multicore score of 31,478, compared with 29,761 for Intel Core i7-12700. AMD Ryzen 7 8700G has the higher score in this benchmark.
Single-core scores describe one thread; multicore scores describe aggregate CPU throughput. These results do not establish which CPU is faster in every application. Compare platform support and total upgrade cost before buying.
AMD Ryzen 7 8700G lists AM5; Intel Core i7-12700 lists FCLGA1700. Check the motherboard manufacturer's CPU support list and BIOS requirements. If the required platform changes, include motherboard, memory and cooling costs; the CPU price alone is not the full upgrade cost.
Sources and data freshness

- Intel Core i7-12700 on PassMark CPU Benchmarks. Data retrieved .
The retrieval date records when Find Me a CPU collected the source data. It is not a benchmark test date. Prices are USD estimates from the source, converted for other currencies, rather than live retailer offers. Release / first seen means the CPU first appeared on PassMark charts, not necessarily its launch date.
Benchmark scores do not predict frame rates in a particular game. Typical TDP is a specification, not measured electricity use. A matching socket does not confirm motherboard support; check the manufacturer's CPU support list and BIOS requirements.
